HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., July 18, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, July 24, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 11145 Bryton Town Center Drive is conveniently located in the new Bryton development and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Huntersville residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.

"Walmart's involvement in the community began before the first bit of dirt was moved, with store manager Lori Tackitt asking how she and employees of the store could help entities in Huntersville," said Huntersville Mayor Jill Swain. "Already the goodwill and involvement has been impressive and invaluable. Add that to the additional jobs and tax revenue for our residents and it is truly a pleasant surprise to have Walmart's involvement in our town."

One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Patterson Farms produce and Midas Spring Water.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members, led by pharmacy manager Tom Redmond, can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $10,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups, including Blythe Elementary School, Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman, Huntersville Fire Department, Huntersville Police Department, J.M. Alexander Middle School, Little Smiles NC, Inc., Musical Minds NC, Inc. and North Mecklenburg High School.

A portion of the grants is a result of the store's new associates volunteering more than 300 hours for two local schools – Blythe Elementary and North Mecklenburg High School. Through the Volunteerism Always Pays (VAP) program, the Walmart Foundation awards grants to eligible organizations where associates volunteer. In 2012, Walmart associates volunteered more than 2.2 million hours and generated more than $18 million in local grants through the VAP program.

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Lori Tackitt began her Walmart career in 1999 as a sporting goods sales associate in Mooresville.

"It's always exciting to open a new store, and for this one, I'm coming back home and helping put 300 people to work," Tackitt said. "We look forward to the community joining us at the grand-opening celebration Wednesday, July 24."

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Huntersville community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, July 27. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Tackitt and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 pm.
