VANCOUVER, Wash, July 17, 2013 – Walmart will open the first Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, July 17 after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 7809 NE Vancouver Plaza and is open 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., daily. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
The Vancouver Neighborhood Market is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh baked breads, a self-serve deli and a bakery. The Vancouver store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including Franz Bread, Dave's Killer Bread and Reser's Fine Foods.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
In addition to its Every Day Low Prices, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are proud to support the Southwest Washington community through its charitable giving. The company recently granted the Clark County Food Bank more than $115,000 for a refrigerated truck as a part of its Fresh Alliance program.
"With this new refrigerated truck, we will be able to distribute a greater volume of donations to our 20 food bank partners in the area," says Alan Hamilton, Executive Director of the Clark County Food Bank. "Walmart's grant will have a direct and immediate effect on Clark County residents in need of nutritious meals."
Throughout the past five years, the Walmart Foundation has awarded more than $100,000 to Clark County nonprofits through the Washington State Giving Program and community grants. These organizations include the Police Activities League, Americans Building Community, the Children's Home Society of Washington, Partners in Careers, the Parks Foundation of Clark County and the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington.
At the grand opening, several area organizations will receive grants, including the Clark County Food Bank. The organization was awarded $115,657 from the Washington State Giving Council for its new refrigerated food distribution truck.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs about 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Troy Hannah began his Walmart career in 2010 as a shift manager and recently managed the successful store in West Linn. "I am looking forward to the community enjoying this great store and saving them money so they can live better," said Hannah. "We want everyone to join us for the grand opening and the family festivities that will continue throughout the week."
A Big Family Welcome
In addition to the grand opening on July 17, Walmart is happy to be part of the Vancouver community and is ready to celebrate with residents at the new location on Saturday, July 20. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet store manager Troy Hannah and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, balloon animals and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
