PLEASANTON, Calif., July 15, 2013 – Walmart will open a new Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, July 17, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-fourth the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 3112 Santa Rita Road and is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and a full service pharmacy. The Pleasanton Neighborhood Market is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.
"We are thrilled to welcome Walmart Neighborhood Market to Meadow Plaza," said Pleasanton Mayor Jerry Thorne. "The neighboring residents and businesses have waited in anticipation for this new grocery that will serve the immediate community."
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and bakery items.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation. Recipients include the Pleasanton Police for their Community Outreach Program, Livermore / Pleasanton Fire Department for their safety and education program, Open Heart Kitchen, Axis Community Health, Pleasanton Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Pleasanton American Legion and Harvest Valley Christian Church.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs about 85 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Alton Wheeler began his Walmart career in 2001 as an assistant manager.
"We look forward to greeting customers, sharing everything our new store has to offer and celebrating with the community when we open our doors July 17," said Wheeler. "Our grocery products and merchandise are offered at Walmart's famous Every Day Low Prices and I look forward earning the community's business."
A Big Family Welcome – Saturday, July 20th
Walmart is happy to be part of the Pleasanton community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, July 20.
