VACAVILLE, Calif., July 12, 2013 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, July 17, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 941 Alamo Drive in the Golden Hills Plaza and is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.

"We are pleased to have Walmart bring their Neighborhood Market concept to Vacaville," said Mayor Steve Hardy. "The Golden Hills Plaza has long sought another grocery store anchor for the vacant space and we are excited to have Walmart revitalize the center."

The Vacaville Neighborhood Market is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the nation on July 17th.

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Recipients include California Shock Trauma Air Rescue, Solano County Farm Bureau, The Leaven, The Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club, Vacaville Police Department, Vacaville Public Education Foundation and the Young Artists Conservatory of Music.

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs about 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

Store manager Eric Munson began his Walmart career in 2002 as hourly associate in Vallejo.

"We are excited to open the Vacaville Neighborhood Walmart, and our associates are ready to help bring everyday convenience to the Vacaville community," said Munson.

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Vacaville community and is ready to celebrate with residents Wednesday, July 17. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Munson and enjoy grand opening activities and free food and beverage samples while supplies last.
