BRISTOL, Conn., July 8, 2013 – Bristol residents are invited to attend the grand opening of the Walmart Neighborhood Market, which opens its doors at 325 Oakland St. Wednesday, July 17, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. This is the first Walmart Neighborhood Market in Bristol and only the second in Connecticut, bringing customers a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs. The Bristol Neighborhood Market is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.
At approximately 55,000 square feet, the new store is about one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter and offers quick and convenient shopping. It will offer low prices on high-quality groceries and general merchandise, including fresh produce and pharmacy services. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Bristol Mayor Arthur J. Ward will cut the ribbon during the grand-opening ceremony, and the national anthem will be performed by Miss Mum 2012, Grace Gagnon. Local Boy and Girl Scouts will participate in the flag ceremony.
Smaller Store, More Convenience
Walmart Neighborhood Market debuted in 1998, and now has more than 250 stores across the country. It features a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. It features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, a self-serve deli and a bakery.
The store will also feature financial services, a digital-photo processing center and Walmart Site-to-Store, which allows customers to order merchandise online and have it shipped to the Bristol store for pickup.
Store manager Lindsey Larson started her Walmart career in 2004 as an assistant manager in Gloversville, N.Y. She comes to Bristol after serving as manager of a store in Quincy, Mass., for the past 16 months.
Full-Service Pharmacy
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
Pharmacist Nilay Vadsola earned his Pharmacy degree from Howard University in Washington D.C. He grew up around pharmacists, with his father, uncle and several family friends. He started working at his father's pharmacy at an early age, and is excited to be part of a new store and pharmacy in Bristol.
"I'm looking forward to getting to know the customers by name, and providing them with great customer service," Vadsola said. "I'm excited to reach out to the people and inform them about the brand new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Bristol."
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $4,500 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Grant recipients include the Bristol Police and Fire Departments, local Boy and Girl Scouts, Bristol Boys and Girls Club and Imagine Nation Children's Museum.
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Bristol community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, July 20. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Larson and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
