ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., July 8, 2013 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, July 17, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-fourth the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 4700 Cutler Ave. NE. in the Pavilions at San Mateo near Interstate 40 and San Mateo Boulevard and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
"On behalf of the City of Albuquerque I am delighted to see another business open its doors in the Pavilions at San Mateo to serve that great neighborhood," said Mayor Richard J. Berry. "This Walmart Neighborhood Market means 95 new jobs for Albuquerque families and that's good news."
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Albuquerque store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including:
- Bueno chilies, tortillas and salsas
- Sadie's Salsa
- Albuquerque Tortilla Company
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Ralph Gutierrez began his Walmart career 15 years ago as an hourly sales associate at the Coors Bypass store in Albuquerque.
"I'm an Albuquerque native and am excited to bring this new store to the northeastern part of the city," said Gutierrez. "Our associates look forward to meeting the needs of our customers, getting to know them and treating them like family in our neighborhood store. I encourage everyone to join us on grand opening day."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Albuquerque community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, July 20. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Gutierrez and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last.
