SELINSGROVE, Pa., July 3, 2013 – An expanded Walmart will unveil the changes Wednesday, July 17, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The expanded store at 980 N. Susquehanna Trail is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Selinsgrove residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services. The Selinsgrove Walmart is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.
The expansion adds approximately 30,000 square feet to the existing store and will allow for a larger selection of merchandise for customers. New departments include deli, bakery, produce, meat, frozen foods, dairy and full dry grocery.
"The Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to see the expansion of the Selinsgrove Walmart in our community. Not only has it added much-needed jobs, but the expansion also provides an increase of quality goods and services to the area," said Jennifer Daddario, Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce. "Walmart has a strong partnership with the Chamber and an even stronger one with the community – continually giving back in so many ways. We look forward to our continued relationship with Walmart and wish them much success with their grand re-opening."
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Furmano's, DelGrosso's and Con Agra.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of approximately $10,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Grant recipients include Geisinger Hospital in Danville/Children's Miracle Network, Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce Women's Symposium and Hummels Wharf Volunteer Fire Company.
More Store, More Jobs
The store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 80 positions created by the expansion. Store manager Tom Stem began his Walmart career in 1990 as an electronics department manager.
"Our expanded Supercenter format will bring a wider selection of merchandise, including fresh foods and grocery under one roof at Walmart's everyday low prices, which will help our customers save money so they can live better," said Stem. "Our new store layout allows for fast and friendly service throughout the store. These improvements to the shopping experience come as we increase the number of full- and part-time jobs and provide career opportunities for our current associates."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Selinsgrove community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, July 20, from noon to 3 p.m. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Stem and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, character appearances and free food samples while supplies last.
