NEW ROADS, La., July 3, 2013 – A newly relocated Walmart will open Wednesday, July 17, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 460 Hospital Road is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Pointe Coupee Parish residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs as well as pharmacy services. The store is relocating from its previous location at 2050 False River Drive.

"I am very excited that Walmart has expanded its presence in the city of New Roads not only because of the jobs created and economic development opportunities, but also because of their reputation as a good corporate citizen," said Mayor Robert A. Myer.

The New Roads Walmart is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.

One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections, in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Savoie's products and Community Coffee.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.

New Store, New Jobs
The newly relocated store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 200 jobs created by the relocation. Store manager Karen Jones began her Walmart career in 1988 as an hourly associate at the customer service desk in Mansura, La.

"This is going to be a huge change for the community, and I am eager to continue to help customers find what they need," said Jones. "We look forward to the community joining us at the grand-opening celebration Wednesday, July 17."

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the New Roads community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, July 20. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Jones and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
