CARY, N.C., July 3, 2013 – Walmart will open Cary's second Walmart Neighborhood Market Wednesday, July 17, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 973 N. Harrison Ave. in the Northwood Shopping Center and is open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services. The Cary Neighborhood Market is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.
"Revitalization projects like this that give a second chance to a structure are critical to Cary's future and for the neighbors who rely on these buildings to provide services," said Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht Jr. "I want to personally thank Walmart for their commitment to Cary and for following through with their vision, especially as the economy slowly shows signs of rebounding."
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads and a deli.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Gary Stewart began his Walmart career in 1990 as a part-time cart pusher.
"Our new smaller format concept will bring more convenience to local customers, and I want them to enjoy shopping just like I want my own family to enjoy their shopping experience at a store," Stewart said. "We look forward to the community joining us at the grand-opening celebration Wednesday, July 17."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Cary community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, July 20. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Stewart and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
