FALL RIVER, Mass., July 1, 2013 – A newly relocated Walmart will open Wednesday, July 17, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. The new store at 638 Quequechan St. is conveniently located in the Crossroads at 24, and is open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. It will provide Fall River residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs as well as pharmacy services. The store is relocating from its previous location at 374 William S. Canning Blvd, and is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.
"We thank Walmart for its continual investment in the greater Fall River community and in bringing in new jobs to the area at a time when its sorely needed with the construction of its new Supercenter. We wish it continued success with its upcoming grand opening and new store for the future," said Jay Pateakos, Vice President of Business Development, Fall River Chamber of Commerce.
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Tony's Bread and Cape Cod Chips.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $4,500 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups including American Little League, Fall River Fire Department, Fall River Marine Cadets and Fall River Police Department.
New Store, New Jobs
The newly relocated store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 85 jobs created by the relocation. Store manager Martin Disla began his Walmart career in 1998 as an hourly sales associate.
"We are so excited to bring this newly relocated store to Fall River," said Disla. "We think customers will be pleased with our selection, as well as with the savings we offer on our full line of groceries and merchandise. On grand-opening day, we will be offering product samples and giveaways, and we invite everyone to stop in and see the new store."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Fall River community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, July 20. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Disla and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last.
