KENNETT SQUARE, Pa., June 12, 2013 – An expanded Walmart will unveil the changes Wednesday, June 26, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:15 a.m. The expanded store is conveniently located at 516 School House Road and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Kennett Square residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
The expansion adds approximately 23,000 square feet to the existing store and will allow for a larger selection of merchandise for customers. New departments include a deli, bakery, fresh produce, meat and a broader selection of dairy and frozen foods.
"The Kennett Square Walmart has played a key role in the success of our summer camp and other projects. We greatly appreciate the store's continuing support of our community and the Kennett Area Parks and Recreation Department," said Claire Finfrock, regional vice president.
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $3,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups including Cradles to Crayons, Kennett Area Senior Center, Longwood Fire Company, The Mushroom Festival, Chester County Historical Society, Kennett Area Parks and Recreation, Kennett Education Foundation, Unionville Elementary School, East Marlborough Township, Kennett Area Park Authority and Operations Homeland.
More Store, More Jobs
The store employs approximately 250 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 55 positions created by the expansion. Store manager Stan Morgan began his Walmart career in 2003 as an assistant manager.
"The newly expanded store is a one-stop shop to assist customers in saving money so they can live better. We provide customers the products they want at an affordable price," said Morgan.
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Kennett Square community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, June 29. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Morgan and enjoy fun family activities such as mascot appearances, a bounce house and free food samples while supplies last.
