Walmart Ready to Reveal New Store to Chatham County Shoppers

New store provides wide selection of merchandise, including Tar Heel items in collegiate shop

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C., June 4, 2013 – Chatham County residents will soon have one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs when a new Walmart Supercenter opens Wednesday, June 12, at 12500 U.S. 15 501 Highway N. in Chapel Hill.

The approximately 148,000-square-foot store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Doors will open following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m.

"Chatham County is excited that Walmart selected our community for a new full-service store, which has already brought much-needed jobs to our area," said Walter Petty, chairman of the Chatham County Commission. "Not only has it helped provide jobs, the new Walmart store means that local people now have a great option to buy a wide range of items at reasonable prices. Keeping jobs and retail dollars in Chatham County is a win-win for everyone."

The Chatham County store is one of 17 Walmart stores opening in communities across the United States on June 12.

One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.

The new Chatham County Walmart also features a wide variety of Tar Heel merchandise in the collegiate shop. Clothing and other items featuring Carolina blue will give customers a chance to show their support for the University of North Carolina, located just five miles from the store.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 200 full- and part-time associates, including store manager Chris Smith, who comes to the Chatham County store after running the Walmart in High Point. Smith started his Walmart career in 2000 as an electronics department manager in Acworth, Ga.

"I'm proud to have been chosen to be the store manager of this new store," Smith said. "I'm excited to train our associates from the ground up, the Walmart way."

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Chatham County community and is ready to celebrate with residents on June 15. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Smith and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
