VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., June 3, 2013 – Walmart Neighborhood Market is coming to Virginia Beach, bringing shoppers an excellent alternative to shop for groceries, including fresh produce.
The store, located at 3201 Holland Road, will open Wednesday, June 12, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store is approximately 41,000 square feet and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering a variety of groceries and pharmacy services. The Virginia Beach store is one of 17 stores opening in communities across the United States on June 12.
"The Walmart Neighborhood Market has been a success across much of the nation, and Virginia Beach is excited to have this concept brought to our city," said Glenn R. Davis, Virginia Beach City Council – Rose Hall. "Walmart is a wonderful community partner giving back to the neighborhoods it serves through volunteer hours and grants, and Virginia Beach is happy to see the Walmart family grow in our community."
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features a deli, self-serve bakery, prepared food options, fresh-baked breads and more.
The store layout makes shopping convenient for busy Virginia Beach residents, whether they are doing their shopping for the week or dropping in for a handful of items. Lots of fresh produce, meats and rotisserie chicken give shoppers options to plan their family's meals.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services, and a drive-thru lane makes dropping off and picking up prescriptions easy. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
Pharmacist Laura Ngo began her Walmart career in 2007 as an hourly intern. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Ngo has been a pharmacist for four years and is committed to the health of the customers.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates and is being led by store manager Robert Wiggins. He began his Walmart career in 2000 as a cart pusher at a Walmart in Gloucester County.
"I am looking forward to working with customers and seeing the smile on their face after helping them with what they need," said Wiggins.
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Virginia Beach community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, June 15. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Wiggins and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
