OMAHA, Neb., June 10, 2013 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, June 12, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 6710 S. 167th St. at the crossroads of 168th and Harrison streets. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services. The Omaha store is one of 17 Walmart stores opening in communities across the United States on June 12.
"Walmart has been a part of the fabric of retail community in Omaha for quite some time, " said Winsley Durand, Senior Director of Recruitment, Greater Omaha Chamber. "This new Neighborhood Market concept will continue the long history of creating jobs and investment in Omaha, while providing affordable grocery products."
The grand-opening celebration includes presentation of $109,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups including Heartland Hope Mission and Good Bank of The Heartland.
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Omaha store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including Rotella's Italian bread, Skinner's rolls and Ozark Smoked Meat Co. barbecue sauce.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health-and-wellness solutions.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 95 associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Brian Farber began his Walmart career in 2002 as an hourly produce sales associate at a store in Lincoln.
"I'm looking forward to providing the Omaha community and the surrounding area with one-stop shopping for fresh meat, produce and a pharmacy," said Farber. "The associates and I want to give a hearty welcome to our customers when our doors open Wednesday, June 12."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Omaha community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, June 15. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Farber and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
