MORRISVILLE, N.C., June 10, 2013 – Walmart will open the Triangle's second Walmart Neighborhood Market Wednesday, June 26, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 3560 Davis Drive in Morrisville Market and is open daily from 7 a.m. to midnight. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
"Morrisville is home to a delightfully diverse population, one that values both convenience and choice. To the benefit of our residents, our new Walmart Neighborhood Market will provide both. We welcome Walmart's commitment to offering healthier packaged foods and affordable fresh fruits and vegetables and look forward to the jobs brought to the Heart of the Triangle community," said Morrisville Mayor Jackie Holcombe.
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Morrisville store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services and will feature a drive-thru. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups, including Communities in Schools of Wake County, Salvation Army of Wake County and White Plains Children's Center.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 80 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Maurice Hammonds began his Walmart career in 1992 as an hourly sales associate in the men's department at the store in Elizabethtown, N.C.
"I am eager to bring the added convenience of a Walmart Neighborhood Market to Morrisville, just the second in the Triangle," Hammonds said. "We look forward to the community joining us at the grand-opening celebration Wednesday, June 26."
