HALEYVILLE, Ala., April 24, 2013 – A newly relocated Walmart will open on Wednesday, May 8, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 42466 Highway 195 E. is conveniently located across the street from the former site and is open Sunday through Thursday, 6 a.m to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 6 a.m. to midnight. At nearly twice the size of the former location, it will provide Haleyville residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
“From the city’s perspective, we’re excited about the opening of the new Walmart for the economic impact of the increase in sales revenue and jobs,” said Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri.
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Ozark Trail sleeping bags, manufactured in Haleyville by Exxel Outdoors, and Auburn University and University of Alabama merchandise.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions. A drive-thru service will also be available.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $5,875 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Recipients include Haleyville Elementary School, Haleyville Middle School, Haleyville High School, the Haleyville Fire Department, the Haleyville Police Department, Pebble Fire Department, the Haleyville Chamber of Commerce and the Haleyville 9-1-1 Festival.
New Store, New Jobs
The newly relocated store employs approximately 190 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 85 jobs created by the relocation. Store manager Drew Stephens began his Walmart career 24 years ago as an assistant manager in Columbus, Miss. Growing up in Mississippi, Stephens remembers when College Football Hall-of-Famer and former NFL Pro Bowler Archie Manning appeared at a Walmart.
“He was signing autographs and going on helicopter rides with people in the Walmart parking lot, and I got to go up in a helicopter with him for about 5 minutes,” he recalled.
“The town’s really looking forward to the new store, and their excitement fuels my excitement,” said Stephens. “I’m looking forward to providing people in Haleyville and the surrounding area with one-stop shopping.”
