SAN ANTONIO, April 25, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, May 1, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 4096 N. Foster Road is conveniently located and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide northeast San Antonio residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
“Residents in the area are looking forward to the opening of Walmart on Foster Road. In addition to providing more shopping options, Walmart is bringing approximately 250 jobs to the area,” said District 2 Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor. “We look forward to continued revitalization of the Foster Road corridor.”
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Adams Spices, Bimbo Breads, Flowers Bakery and Oak Farms Dairy items.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions. There are also two convenient drive-thru lanes for easy drop off of prescriptions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Some of the groups receiving these grants are the USO San Antonio, National Society to Prevent Blindness, Wagner High School JROTC, American Lung Association of the Plains-Gulf Region, Make-a-Wish Foundation- Central and South Texas, and Bexar County Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE).
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 250 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Mike Weder began his Walmart career in 2003 as a frozen food sales associate in Spring Hill, Fla.
“Our associates have been very busy getting the store ready for our grand opening,” said Weder. “This is a very exciting time for our community, and we can’t wait to open our doors at 8 a.m. and welcome shoppers. We want the local residents to come out and enjoy product samples and giveaways on grand-opening day and throughout the weekend.”
