New Walmart Neighborhood Markets Bring Convenience, Savings & Jobs to Vacaville

Stores will offer affordable groceries, create about 130 jobs and help stimulate nearby businesses

VACAVILLE, Calif., March 29, 2013 – Today, Walmart announced plans for two new Walmart Neighborhood Markets at 2050 Nut Tree Road and 941 Alamo Drive. Considered a small format and designed for customer convenience, both stores will offer a full supermarket line of fresh, affordable groceries, as well as some household products, pet supplies and pharmacy services.

“We are excited to announce plans for two new Walmart Neighborhood Markets in Vacaville,” said, John Butterfield, Market Manager for Walmart. “In addition to offering customers convenience and savings, these two stores will create about 130 new jobs in the area, and offer a new choice for fresh, affordable groceries for Vacaville residents and their families.”

The store at 2050 Nut Tree Road is expected to open fall 2013 and will employ about 65 associates. It will occupy a currently vacant 46,000 square foot retail space formerly occupied by a drug store and will help  return economic vitality to the Golden Hills Plaza shopping center.

The second store, to be located at 941 Alamo Drive (near intersection of Marshall Road and Alamo Drive) will open in summer 2013 and also will employ about 65 associates. It will occupy a 54,000 square foot retail space in Alamo Plaza which formerly housed a grocery store and has been empty for several years.

The projects are each anticipated to support about 50 contract construction jobs over the coming 6-7 months.

Both full- and part-time hourly employment opportunities as well as supervisorial positions will be available at each store.  The average wage for full-time, hourly Associates in California is $12.93.* In addition to competitive pay and an opportunity to build a career, Walmart offers associates a comprehensive benefits package to eligible Associates that includes affordable health insurance with a plan starting at $17 per pay period, company-matched 401(k), and an Associate Discount Card among other benefits. Walmart will open temporary hiring centers near each store to facilitate interviews and more. The hiring center for the Alamo Drive store is anticipated to open June 2013 and the hiring center for the Nut Tree store is expected to open in July 2013.

The Vacaville Walmart Neighborhood Markets will include energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy, water consumption and minimize waste. Features include LED lighting used in exterior signage and refrigeration cases, an energy management system for adjusting energy usage and one of the industry’s most efficient heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) units available.
