HELOTES, Texas, March 26, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, April 10, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 12550 Leslie Road is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Helotes residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
"Our new Walmart is going to be a tremendous asset to the City of Helotes," said Tom Schoolcraft, mayor of Helotes. "As a 33 year resident of Helotes, it is exciting to see that now we will have a place to not only go shopping for groceries, but just about all of our other household and entertainment needs. It will be wonderful for all of us to have a place to shop right here in Helotes and to no longer have to go into our neighboring cities.”
“From an economic point of view, our Walmart will help Helotes to finally keep a substantial amount of sales tax revenue that previously went to other communities. This additional revenue will enable us to continue to improve on our already excellent services which provide for our health, safety and welfare. These services include, but are certainly not limited to, Police, Fire, EMS and Public Works,” Schoolcraft added.
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Fiesta spices.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes the presentation of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Stewart Adair began his Walmart career in 1988 as an hourly associate.
“We are excited about the opportunity to help save people money so they can live better,” said Adair. “We are committed to providing a cleaner, faster and friendlier store.”
