CLOVIS, Calif., March 7, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, March 13, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 1185 Herndon Ave. is conveniently located at the corner of Herndon Avenue and Highway 168. It will provide Clovis residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs, and will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The store also offers pharmacy services.
"This new Walmart store not only provides hundreds of new jobs for our city, it serves as an anchor for the new Clovis Crossing Regional Shopping Center,” said Clovis Mayor Jose G. Flores. “Walmart and neighboring stores will generate a synergy that will attract buyers from all over our region, and local consumers will have new options to buy affordable goods and services in Clovis,” said Flores. “Many Clovis residents have told me they can’t wait to shop at the new store."
“The benefits of opening this Walmart store will be tremendous to the Clovis community, from the 280 new jobs that will be created to the increase in tax revenue that will go towards funding city services,” said Clovis City Manager Rob Woolley. “We are looking forward to the new store and continuing to have Walmart as a valuable community partner.”
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections, in addition to local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $10,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store will employ approximately 280 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Michelle Wilhoite began her Walmart career 15 years ago as an assistant manager in Hanford. She worked at stores in Lompoc, Roeland Park, Kan., and Paso Robles before returning to the Hanford store as a co-manager.
“We are excited for our customers to see our merchandise mix such as our large selection of groceries, our ample wine section and fabrics, just to name a few,” said Wilhoite. “Everything people are asking for, we pretty much have, and that’s a good feeling.”
