Walmart Foundation Gives $157,500 to Nevada Nonprofit Organizations

Giving people access to a better life. One community at a time.

BENTONVILLE, Ark., Feb. 7, 2013 – The Walmart Foundation Nevada State Giving Program today announced $157,500 in grants to four non-profit organizations as part of its second giving cycle. In total for 2012, the Walmart Foundation’s Nevada State Giving Program awarded $597,500 to non-profit organizations throughout the state. The council awards grants starting at $25,000 to nonprofit organizations that serve a particular state or region.

“The Walmart Foundation is proud to make a real difference in Nevada,” said Amelia McLear, senior manager for community affairs at Walmart. “We were able to give more than $590,000 last year through our Nevada State Giving Council to support outstanding community programs that are providing important services to those who need it most.”

Grant recipients this cycle include:

  • The YMCA of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas received $52,500
  • The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Las Vegas received $52,500
  • Bristlecone Family Resource in Reno received $26,000
  • City Impact Foundation in Las Vegas received $26,500

One of the grantee organizations, the YMCA of Southern Nevada, strengthens community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. “At the Y, we believe all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve,” said Mike Lubbe, president and CEO for the YMCA of Southern Nevada. “We are honored to have the Walmart Foundation as our partner to support programs that give our children the chance to become confident kids today, healthier grown-ups tomorrow.”

To be considered for support, prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant system. Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria. The spring 2013 grant program is now open and accepting applications through March 1, 2013.
