Boynton Beach Welcomes Walmart Neighborhood Market

Store brings new concept, 90 new jobs and local favorites to the community

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Jan. 9, 2013 – Walmart will open the first Walmart Neighborhood Market in Boynton Beach on Jan. 16. The new store, located at 9840 S. Military Trail, will provide residents of Boynton Beach with a convenient location to pick up all their grocery needs, including fresh produce.

"The Walmart Neighborhood Market will be a good addition to the Boynton Beach community since there are no other grocery stores nearby," said Stuart Caine, president of the Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations (COBWRA). "The store is filling a vacant retail spot which should strengthen the entire Boynton Trail Center shopping area and continue COBWRA's vision of having attractive separations of commercial properties from residential areas. It will be convenient to people in the area and offer a competitive alternative.”

New Boynton Beach Store
The new store is tailored for the Boynton Beach community, featuring a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, fresh bread and a selection of Hispanic, Caribbean, kosher and gluten-free items, as well as meats, cheeses and prepared foods. The deli will feature a Grab-and-Go section with rotisserie chicken, fresh-baked pizza and standard deli sides. The store uses a rational convection no-fry oven that is a healthy alternative that uses no oil or grease. In addition to the fresh produce, bakery and deli items, the store will carry a full line of groceries including frozen foods, meat and dairy products and organic items. Items such as kosher foods, gluten-free selections, Goya, Iberia Foods and Thumann’s brands will be available.

Shoppers will also appreciate the convenience of the store’s pharmacy, along with a full selection of health-related products and a health and beauty area. Additional areas include stationery, paper goods, pet products and hardware items. Customers can also print their own digital photos at the store. The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

The store will offer Site-to-Store, a free service that allows customers to ship online orders from www.walmart.com free to any Walmart store for pickup.

All Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets participate in the Pay with Cash program. This allows customers to order online at Walmart.com and pay for the items with cash at all stores in the U.S. Walmart is the first major retailer to offer online purchases without the need for banking services or a credit, debit or prepaid card.

This store features many energy-saving elements, part of Walmart’s overall efforts to reduce the total amount of energy used in stores and other operations. These features include LED lights in signage, freezer cases and the parking lot. This technology uses about 50 percent less energy than traditional lighting.

Opening Creates 90 Jobs
Approximately 90 part- and full-time jobs will be created with the new store opening. Store manager Julie Ferreira began her Walmart career in 2002 as an hourly associate in the deli at the Boynton Beach Walmart Supercenter. Two other associates at the new store have worked for Walmart for more than 10 years.

“I began my Walmart career in Boynton Beach 10 years ago. I grew up in a military family and am married to a Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer. I’m excited to extend Walmart’s low prices and support for the military to the community of Boynton Beach,” said Ferreira.

Support for the Military
At Walmart, we recognize the importance of the military, veterans and their families. As one of the country’s largest employers of veterans and military spouses, Walmart continues to actively recruit our nation’s heroes through its nearly 4,500 stores and clubs. The Walmart Foundation’s five-year, $20 million commitment to the military and veteran communities addresses the critical needs of the nation’s heroes, with a special emphasis on access to job training and careers. Walmart provides career opportunities to transitioning military, veterans and their families. To help transitioning military and veterans match their skills to Walmart careers, Walmart launched www.walmartcareerswithamission.com.
