Store brings more than 90 new jobs and new store format to Arlington
ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 7, 2013 – A new Walmart Neighborhood Market will open Wednesday, Jan. 16, providing Arlington residents a convenient location to pick up all their grocery needs, including fresh produce. Located at 5613 N. Collins, the store occupies a former Albertsons.
“This new Walmart Neighborhood Market will bring so much to the community in terms of new jobs, increased shopping opportunities for the people who live in this part of Arlington,” said store manager Michele Vandal.
New Store Features
The approximately 58,000-square-foot Arlington store features a self-serve deli with pre-packaged foods and rotisserie chicken, a selection of chilled flavored-water, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as meats, cheeses and prepared foods. In addition to fresh produce, the store will carry a full line of groceries, including frozen foods, meat and dairy products, and organic items.
The Arlington Walmart Neighborhood Market will offer an expanded selection of general merchandise including international spices and food, Hispanic candy, and beer and wine. The store will also off an expanded baby selection including diaper bags, diapers and toys. Additionally, small appliances such as microwaves, blenders, mixers, irons and ironing boards are available, as well as other items for the home.
Shoppers will also appreciate the convenience of the store’s pharmacy, along with a full selection of health-related products and a health and beauty area. Additional areas include stationery, paper goods, pet products, hardware items and a Celebration Station, where customers can buy gift wrap, gift bags and pinatas, greeting cards and party supplies. Customers can also print their own digital photos at the store, which will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The store will offer Site-to-Store services. Site-to-Store is a free service that allows customers to ship online orders from www.walmart.com free to any Walmart store for pickup.
All Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets participate in the Pay with Cash program. This allows customers to order online at www.walmart.com and pay for the items with cash at all stores in the U.S. Walmart is the first major retailer to offer online purchases without the need for banking services or a credit, debit or prepaid card.
Community Groups Benefit from Grand-Opening Grant
As part of the grand-opening celebration, $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation will be presented to local community groups. Ribbon-Cutting Celebration 7:30 a.m., Jan. 16
The store will host a grand-opening celebration at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16. Store associates and local dignitaries will participate in a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Arlington Chamber of Commerce will cut the ribbon. The Lamar High School Orchestra Band and Choir will perform the national anthem. Joseph Davis with Word Up Outreach Church will lead the invocation. Doors to the new store will be opened to the public at 8 a.m. Special events on grand-opening day, and continuing through the weekend, include character appearances, product giveaways and samplings, and other events.
Opening Creates Approximately 90 Jobs
Approximately 90 part- and full-time jobs were created by the store’s opening. Store manager Michele Vandal began her Walmart career in 2003 as a seasonal cashier at a store in Hillsboro. Prior to moving to Arlington, she was store manager at the store in Keller.
