New store offers customers big savings with grocery format
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas, April 17, 2012 – A new Walmart Neighborhood Market will open in Farmers Branch this week, with a 40,000-square-foot store designed to offer quick access to low-cost groceries, prescriptions and household products. The new store, located at 13100 Josey Lane at the Four Corners junction with Valley View Lane, will open to customers at 8 a.m., Friday, April 20. The store will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 25 to celebrate the grand opening.
Community Organizations Benefit from Grand-Opening Grants
As part of the grand-opening festivities, store associates will present $10,000 in grants to local organizations, including Mosaic adult services, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Metrocrest Family Services and Farmers Branch Educational Services. The environmental services department and police department of the City of Farmers Branch will also receive grants.
“Walmart stores in the surrounding area continue to give back to the community through various grants. Although the new Farmers Branch store is yet to open, it has already designated funds to support various community service agencies and educational programs,” said Anne Acuna, director of chamber relations for the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce. “As a Chamber, we are delighted to have Walmart serve our businesses and residents in the growing area of Farmers Branch.”
Fresh Foods and Familiar Brands
Designed as a convenient family shopping center, the Walmart Neighborhood Market will provide the local community another destination for groceries at the Walmart value price. The store will carry a full line of groceries, including fresh produce, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, and organic items. For those on the go, the deli offers hot rotisserie chicken, and a wide variety of meats, cheeses and freshly prepared foods. Customers can pick up cakes and freshly-baked bread in the bakery.
“With our smaller format, our store is perfect for those on the go. Whether they’re stocking up or need to pick up just a few items, our customers will be able to find what they need quickly and easily,” said store manager Lee Ruiz. “Our customers will be able to find familiar brands and local products at great values, right in their own neighborhood.”
Shoppers will also appreciate the convenience of the store’s pharmacy with a full selection of health-related products and a health and beauty area. Additional areas include electronics, stationery, paper goods, housewares and domestics, pet products and hardware items. Customers can also print their own digital photos at the store. The store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Store Provides 90 Local Jobs
The Walmart Neighborhood Market plans to employ approximately 90 associates. Approximately 30 associates have transferred to the new store from existing Walmart locations, including several who have worked for the company for more than 10 years.
“Walmart provides job opportunities and career choices for everyone from seniors looking for supplemental income to young people wanting to gain work experience,” Ruiz said. He joined the company in 1987 as an hourly associate at a store in Robstown, Texas.
Ribbon-Cutting Celebration 7:30 a.m., April 25
Government officials, city representatives and business leaders will join Walmart associates at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, for a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony. Brother Eddy Ketchersid from the Farmers Branch Church of Christ will give an invocation to begin the ceremony. Members of the Farmers Branch Police Department Color Guard will raise the flag at the store, and retired fire chief Buck Criner will perform the national anthem, with the accompaniment of the R.L. Turner High School orchestra. Ruiz Ruiz and store associates will cut the ribbon to the new store.
