@WalmartLabs Expands Into India

BANGALORE, India, Nov. 9, 2011 – Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT) today announced that @WalmartLabs is establishing a presence in India. @WalmartLabs, a part of Walmart’s Global eCommerce Division, is the company’s hub for creating technologies and businesses in social and mobile commerce for global shoppers. The move underscores Walmart’s commitment to technology innovation in powering the next generation of e-commerce.

More than 200 million visits are made to Walmart stores across 28 countries each week. New technologies generated from @WalmartLabs are designed to eliminate the boundaries between brick-and-mortar stores and e-commerce to give shoppers a seamless experience anywhere and on any device.

The @WalmartLabs facility in Bangalore is recruiting a roster of developers who have deep knowledge and expertise in the areas of machine learning, social analytics and big data infrastructure. The team will lead and own projects to bring new e-commerce, social and mobile commerce offerings to the global marketplace. @WalmartLabs expects to hire approximately 100 developers.
