(Little Rock, AR) April 14, 2011 - Today, Walmart issued an open invitation to all Arkansas internet businesses – known as affiliates – to explore the opportunity to join the Walmart family. The invitation to become a part of Walmart.com’s Affiliate Network, comes on the heels of an announcement from Overstock.com that they have abandoned their Arkansas affiliates as a result of the passage of S.B. 738, which was signed into law by Governor Mike Beebe on April 1, 2011.
“Online-only retailers have long held a very unfair tax advantage over brick and mortar businesses, but the loophole has been closed and Arkansas businesses can now compete on a fair and level playing field. Unfortunately, instead of embracing fair competition some online-only retailers are taking their frustration out on the same Arkansas businesses that helped them grow their businesses,” said Steve Nave, Senior Vice President, Walmart.com
“Walmart will not turn its back on Arkansas internet businesses owners who have been put in jeopardy by an online-only retailer. Instead, we encourage them to join Walmart.com’s Affiliate Network. We applaud the Arkansas legislature and Governor Beebe for their leadership in supporting this important piece of retail fairness legislation,” Nave concluded.
Walmart is committed to supporting the affiliate programs which help to drive Walmart.com’s online business. Walmart will continue to collect and remit all sales taxes due on all Walmart.com sales to alleviate all regulatory burdens from its customers.
