International Recent Financial Results
First quarter Walmart International net sales were $25.0 billion, an increase of 21.4 percent from last year.  The increase in Walmart International net sales includes a $2.5 billion positive impact from currency exchange rate fluctuations.  On a constant currency basis, Walmart International net sales were up 8.9 percent to $22.5 billion from last year's first quarter results.   

Walmart International reported operating income for the first quarter that included a currency exchange rate benefit of $119 million.  On a constant currency basis, Walmart International operating income increased 13.9 percent to $1.0 billion for the first quarter of fiscal 2011 compared to the same period in fiscal year 2010.  On a reported basis, Walmart International operating income increased 27.8 percent to $1.1 billion compared to the same period in fiscal 2010.

Walmart International net sales for fiscal year 2010 were $100.1 billion, an increase of 1.3 percent from the previous year. On a constant currency basis, International net sales increased 11.2 percent to $109.9 billion in fiscal year 2010, compared to $98.8 billion in fiscal year 2009.

* Effective, January 31, 2010, we changed the methodology for presenting our store counts to be consistent with the financial statements.  Therefore, as with all prior reports, the U.S. store counts continue to be reported based on a January 31 year end, International store counts are presented based on a December 31 year-end.  In this report, except for Canada, International unit counts are presented as of May 31; Canada is presented as of June 30. Effective February 2010, Puerto Rico is reported as part of Walmart U.S. and Sam's Club and will no longer be reported with the International unit counts.
