Operation Main Street savings surpass projection,
Additional savings could reach $100 million
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Dec. 12, 2008 – Walmart announced today another delivery of weekly savings to help families across America cut the cost of Christmas. Operation Main Street initiatives have saved shoppers an estimated $300 million thus far this holiday season. In the remaining days for holiday shopping, Walmart projects it will save its customers another $100 million over and above its every day low prices.
Weekly savings beginning in stores this Sunday, Dec. 14 underscore Walmart’s promise to provide shoppers with savings that matter when they are needed most. With Christmas two weeks away, Rollbacks and more new savings are focused on gifts and preparing for the holiday, from gifts for him at $10 and $20 to entertainment products and brands, including a 2GB Toshiba laptop and 32-inch Sharp LCD HDTV both priced at $398 starting Sunday.
Shoppers who have signed up for Walmart’s new “Savings Alerts” by cell phone at #WMT or www.walmart.com/mobileinfo will be receiving free text messages about savings and more across the store this week. In addition, Walmart's Ad Match policy assures customers that their Walmart will match any local competitor's advertised price on the exact same item, alleviating the need for shoppers to drive all over town to get the very best value.
To help customers save even more, Walmart.com has also extended its free shipping Site to Store order cut-off date by seven days (through Dec. 17). The popular Site to Store service provides free shipping of online orders to local Walmart stores, and the retailer expects to save customers more than $40 million in shipping fees this Christmas season. Based on the success of Site to Store, Walmart.com recently added Site to Store Express, which ships eligible orders to a Walmart store twice as fast – in just 3 to 5 business days. For only $29 a year, Site to Store Express customers receive a year of unlimited expedited shipping to their local Walmart store. The more frequently customers use the service, the more they’ll save since the low annual fee allows customers to enjoy faster shipping throughout the year on all eligible Site to Store orders. The last day to order for Christmas using Site to Store Express is 12/20. More information is available at www.walmart.com/sitetostore.
Operation Main Street ensures Walmart stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its community partners with a commitment to helping Americans hit hardest by tough economic times. Focused on immediate needs, the Walmart Foundation has given more than $25 million combined to local community organizations over the holiday season, including grants to Feeding America, The Salvation Army, Meals On Wheels Association of America, Fisher House and Operation Homefront.
