BENTOVILLE, ARK. Doug Mertens a 14-year Sam’s Club Associate in Buford, GA received recognition from his peers and management at a recent company wide meeting to kick off the New Year. Mertens is a Bakery Demo Associate who has affectionately been nicknamed the “Cookie Man” for serving up samples of bakery items for Members and guests in the club.
“Doug takes great pride in his job and our Members and their families feel right at home when they are shopping with us,” said Paul Stone, Market Manager. “He does so much for all us here, and for the community, it was great to see him recognized as an exceptional Sam’s Club Associate at our annual meeting. “
In addition to delighting both his fellow club Associates and Members with “Cookie Man” catch phrases over the Club PA system such as “lookie, lookie, we got cookies,” he also makes time for special Member requests. Recently, a local high school student needed help with an essay on Pearl Harbor and Doug shared his perspective having served in the Marine Corp from 1942 to 1946.
Doug took center stage at the annual meeting with Sam’s Club President and Chief Executive Officer, Doug McMillon, who presented him with a commemorative pin and a special book about Sam’s Club Associates. The 4,000 plus Associates in attendance gave the “Cookie Man” a standing ovation.
