Deadline to Sign-Up for Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan is Dec. 31

Wal-Mart and SAM’S Club Pharmacies have experts to assist customers in signing up or switching plans

WHAT:   Medicare Part D prescription drug plan enrollment deadline is Dec. 31.  Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club pharmacies are ready to help seniors who have not enrolled in a Medicare prescription drug plan, as well as seniors who wish to switch their Medicare prescription drug plan.  Seniors can visit any of more than 3,800 pharmacies across the nation and speak with a specially trained pharmacy associate about the program. 

WHEN:   Now until Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006.
WHERE:   If you have not yet enrolled in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club pharmacists can help.  You can visit your local Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club to speak with a knowledgeable pharmacist.  To find the closest pharmacy to you, go to www.walmart.com/pharmacy.

Wal-Mart offers a new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder tool that pharmacy associates can access to help customers find plan information or that customers can access from their home computer by going to  www.walmart.com/medicare and clicking on the “Prescription Drug Plan Finder” link.

  • Can discuss the intricacies of the Medicare Part D prescription drug plan
  • Have been formally trained to fill prescriptions under the Part D Benefit

WHY:   January is a busy time for pharmacies due to the millions of Americans making changes to their insurance coverage.  If you are a new enrollee to the Medicare Part D plan, have switched your plan or just need to refill a prescription in January, there are steps you can take to lessen your wait time. 

  • If possible, refill your January prescription in December.
  • Be sure to bring your Plan ID card, Medicare or Medicaid card, and a Photo ID.  If you haven’t received your new insurance card, make sure that you bring a confirmation letter or other proof of coverage from your new plan with you to the pharmacy.
  • Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club pharmacies can help seniors control their prescriptions drug costs thanks to the $4 generic prescriptions program, now available across the country.
  • To make Medicare Part D enrollment easier:
  • Review your current health insurance coverage
  • o Are prescription drugs covered? Make a list of out-of-pocket prescription drug costs.
  • Make a list of all your prescription drugs by name and dosage. 
  • Visit your local Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club to speak with a pharmacist to get more information.
