BENTONVILLE, Ark., December 19, 2006 – The perfect Christmas gift does not necessarily come in a big box, weigh one hundred pounds, or require time to wrap. Or, customers can easily upload photos online at Walmart.com’s Digital Photo Center and have their favorite photo printed onto a gift card and ready to pick up at a Wal-Mart store within one hour for $0.88.
This year, Wal-Mart is expanding its gift card offering in stores with more choices from top entertainment, dining and travel services. The retailer has identified popular gift card categories – travel and experiences, dining out and entertainment – and partnered with top businesses to offer shoppers choice gift cards in stores. The selection includes gift cards for American and Southwest Airlines ($100), Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants ($25), and AMC Theaters ($25), among others.
New this season online at Walmart.com (www.walmart.com), customers can purchase special Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 gift cards – the next best gift for those who didn’t find the popular game systems. The cards come pre-loaded with the retail price of each console –$249.24 and $599, respectively – and are inserted into a special card carrier with the console’s image.
Sending an online gift card is quick and easy at Walmart.com. Customers begin by choosing among several different online gift card designs, including Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa designs that are new for this year. Next, customers load the card with $10 to $200 and enter the recipient’s email address. Online gift cards are emailed to the recipient within hours and the recipient can shop online immediately. And, for the ultimate procrastinator, Walmart.com’s online gift cards can be purchased and emailed anytime, even on Christmas Day!
