BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Nov. 30, 2006) – Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has experienced unprecedented online success so far this holiday season with close to a 60 percent increase in traffic over last year on its Web site, Walmart.com (www.walmart.com). This online trend at Walmart.com began on Thanksgiving Day, its strongest day ever, and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
“Since Thanksgiving Day, we continue to enjoy nearly a 60 percent rise in site traffic over last year which has greatly exceeded our expectations,” said Carter Cast, Walmart.com’s CEO. “In fact, we’re seeing an incredible response to our ‘super online specials’ which kicked off on Cyber Monday this week and will run through Friday. Our customers are responding to the specials we’re offering online this season, including a Philips 3 MP digital camera for $49 and our 100% cashmere scarves for $16.”
Additionally, Walmart.com plans to offer more great values throughout the season, and anticipates a 40-60 percent traffic increase throughout the rest of the season, with expectations of 25 million visits this week alone. The world’s leading retailer’s Web site is on track to hit 275 million visits this holiday season, and expects to close the year with 700 million site visits overall.
According to Hitwise, for the second year in a row, Walmart.com assumed the number one position in the Hitwise Online Retail 100 index for Thanksgiving Day with an 18.26 percent market share of visits to the 100 websites in the index.
