- Wal-Mart is committed to sourcing merchandise for our stores that has been produced in an ethical manner. The company continuously works to strengthen its efforts in monitoring supplier factories.
- Wal-Mart has the most active ethical standards program in the retail industry. In 2005, we audited more factories than any other company in the world, performing more than 13,600 audits of 7,200 supplier factories. In addition, we trained more than 11,000 suppliers and their factory managers to increase their familiarity with Wal-Mart’s Standards for Suppliers and to encourage use of accepted practices.
- Our approach to auditing is based on best practices in the field and suggestions that we gain through our active stakeholder engagement. In 2005, we enhanced our program by increasing unannounced audits, strengthening our supplier standards, reclassifying violations to strengthen and reinforce their severity and implementing team audits.
