Wal-Mart Statement on Rosemead Recall Election

ROSEMEAD, Calif., Sept. 19, 2006 – The following statement may be attributed to Kevin McCall, Sr. Manager, Public Affairs:

“It was expected that this would be a tight vote. The mayor and the councilman were working in the best interest of working families by bringing a full-service grocery store, more than 500 new jobs and a half million dollars in tax revenue to a community where they were badly needed.

“This election was largely instigated by people who don’t even live in Rosemead. It is unconscionable that these outsiders would use a recall election to scare other like-minded civil servants throughout the state that put their constituents ahead of special interests.

“We are very happy to be in Rosemead. Our store is doing exceptionally well. We look forward to continuing to work with the city council and to being a good community partner in Rosemead for years to come.”
