BENTONVILLE, Ark., Aug. 2, 2004 Ð Wal-Mart is bringing around-the-clock convenience to another facet of its operations today with the launch of 24-hour pharmacies.

"The need to consult a pharmacist or fill a prescription can occur day or night," said Frank Segrave, vice president, Pharmacy for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. "By doubling the number of hours we’re available each day, we’re looking to meet, and hopefully exceed, our customers’ expectations for this expanded service."

"We’re going to concentrate on these five pharmacies and work to perfect our model," said Ron Chomiuk, Wal-Mart’s vice president, Pharmacy Operations. "These facilities will allow us to gather feedback from our customers and our associates on what we’re doing right and how we can further enhance this concept."

Wal-Mart will launch the 24-hour concept at five pharmacies in two states:

Arkansas
Bentonville Neighborhood Market
3510 Southeast 14th Street

Texas

Arlington Neighborhood Market
735 West Sublet

Fort Worth Neighborhood Market
7401 Park Vista Boulevard

Mesquite Neighborhood Market
915 North Town East Boulevard

Plano Central Supercenter
6000 Coit Road

Wal-Mart pharmacies offer a full spectrum of services. They are complemented by a mail order pharmacy, which provides a cost-effective alternative for long-term maintenance medications, and a specialty pharmacy, which provides specialty and injectable medications and case management for chronic diseases.

More than 10,000 pharmacists serve customers in over 3,000 retail pharmacies throughout 49 states. The pharmacies are located inside Wal-Mart stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, many with convenient drive-through service.
