Barbara Messing is senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Walmart U.S. She is responsible for all aspects of Walmart’s marketing efforts, including customer research, strategy, program development, branding and customer communications for both Walmart stores and e-commerce.
Prior to this role, Barbara served as chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. In her seven years with the company, she helped the world's largest travel site pivot from a media-only site to an e-commerce player by adding the capability to book trips. Her responsibilities included global leadership on brand strategy and experience; search-engine marketing; search-engine optimization; advertising; customer-relationship marketing; global communications; industry relations; customer acquisition and retention; and global partnerships.
Barbara also serves on the board of XO Group, Inc.
She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Northwestern University and a juris doctorate from Stanford University.
