Supporting Our Associates
We are truly grateful to our associates for the vital service they are providing to their communities, and we have taken a number of measures to help them stay safe and healthy.
Emergency Leave Policy and Health Services
We’re strongly encouraging all associates to get the COVID-19 vaccine. For U.S. field associates who do get vaccinated, we're providing cash bonuses to show our thanks. We offer vaccines in all of our more than 5,100 Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies, as well as through special events. An appointment can be made through the Walmart and Sam’s Club schedulers, or we offer walk-in options to get the vaccine. Associates can be vaccinated while on the clock in their home store/club or receive two hours of paid time off to do so at the location of their choice. We also provide up to three days paid leave for adverse reactions to the vaccine.
In early March 2020, we implemented an emergency COVID-19 leave policy, ensuring associates have the support they need. This policy also includes three days of paid leave for any vaccine side effects associates may experience.
Currently, the majority of our associates and family members have everyday access to $4 telehealth doctor visits. We are waiving this fee for those plan members, providing them access to medical and behavioral services at no cost to them. Walmart’s Resources for Living program, which includes behavioral counseling services at no cost, is another way associates can get support during these trying times. This program offers U.S. associates and their households up to 10 no-cost counseling sessions per concern.
Sanitizing, Minimizing Contact and Other Steps
We have closed our stores overnight so that associates have ample time for cleaning, sanitizing and stocking. With the help of Hart brand backpack sprayers, we have developed a new way to sanitize carts faster.
We have increased pickup & delivery service options for customers to help minimize contact and maintain social distancing. We have installed sneeze guards for pharmacy and store registers as well.
Thanking Our Associates
As a way of saying thank you to our incredible associates, we announced that we would be giving a special cash bonus to all hourly associates and accelerating the company first quarter bonus for all hourly associates.
On May 12, 2020, we announced that Walmart would again be recognizing all hourly associates and assistant managers with a second special cash bonus. More information about this bonus is available here.
On July 21, 2020, Walmart announced a third special bonus for store, club, distribution center and fulfillment center associates for their ongoing contributions and dedication to serving customers. You can find more details here.
On Dec. 3, 2020, Walmart announced a fourth special cash bonus to U.S.-based associates for their sustained commitment to customers during the pandemic. Approximately 1.5 million full- and part-time Walmart and Sam’s Club associates working in the company’s stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers received the special cash bonus on Dec. 24 bringing Walmart’s total 2020 quarterly and special cash bonus total for its associates to more than $2.8 billion. More information about these bonuses can be found here.
Practicing Good Hygiene for Health and Safety
We continue to advise associates on best practices for maintaining good health. To help protect yourself, we recommend staying home when you’re sick, including if you’re experiencing fever. Avoid close contact with people who are sick, and practice social distancing by staying at least six feet apart from anyone else. Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and be sure to avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. Cover your nose and/or mouth when you sneeze or cough, and be sure to cough into your elbow or a tissue. Clean and disinfect frequently touched services daily.
Again, we are so appreciative of the work our associates are doing to continue serving customers. Thank you, #TeamWalmart, for all you do.
