Quick Facts

Walmart got its start in Arkansas in 1962. Since then, though our company has expanded across borders and overseas, the U.S. remains the heart of our business where we continue to test new ideas, learn from our customers and improve our ability to help people save money and live better.

Today, Walmart employs nearly 1.6 million people in the U.S. at more than 5,000 stores and clubs nationwide. In FY2020, we promoted more than 200,000 people to jobs of greater responsibility and higher pay in Walmart U.S. The average hourly wage for full- and part-time U.S. hourly associates at the end of FY2020 was more than $14.00 per hour.
