Key Highlights
- Sam’s Club shows up for its neighbors and communities – anytime, anywhere
- From over a million total orders distributed to over 100,000 pounds of delicious soup, Sam’s Club was there for its members during the recent winter storm
When winter weather hits, it doesn’t just change the forecast. It changes what people need and how they need it. At Sam’s Club, we prepared to meet that moment wherever we could, when it mattered most.
Power goes out. Roads ice over. School gets canceled. Suddenly it’s not about convenience or planning ahead. It’s about being prepared, staying warm, and taking care of the people under your roof.
Our members aren’t just people who shop with us. They’re our friends and family. They’re our neighbors. They’re our community. And when a major winter storm swept across the country this last week, our job was simple: to do everything we could to support them.
Showing Up How Our Members Needed Us
As the storm moved across the country, members leaned heavily on flexible shopping options to get essentials with convenience. Over a six-day period, we fulfilled approximately 1 million orders through Curbside Pickup, scheduled delivery, and Express delivery.
"Going to the club" looks different these days, and we’re proud to offer flexible shopping options like curbside and delivery all the time. But during times like last week’s storm, those convenience options became especially important for many members. And we don’t take that responsibility lightly.
Power, Warmth, and Preparedness
In the days leading up to the storm, searches for generators on SamsClub.com surged more than 50 times. Members purchased tens of thousands of generators to prepare for potential power outages. Nearly 40 percent of those generator purchases were fulfilled through curbside pickup or delivery, helping members prepare with convenient options that reduced their time in-club.
As snow piled up, online sales of snow blowers, shovels, lanterns, and work lights jumped more than 2,800 percent compared to the same period last year. Laid end to end, the snow shovels sold during the storm would stretch approximately four miles. We often talk about serving one member at a time, but in this scenario we thought about it slightly differently… one driveway at a time.
The Essentials That Matter Most
Over the course of the week, members purchased nearly 8 million pounds of ice melt to help address icy conditions. About one quarter of that volume came through online orders. Battery demand surged as well. In one week, members purchased more than 80,000 units of batteries online. The hero item was the Member’s Mark AA multipack, with enough sold to stretch across the Golden Gate Bridge several times over.
And when it came time to eat, comfort showed up in simple, familiar ways. After sledding down neighborhood hills and shaking the snow off at the door, families gathered around warm meals that brought everyone back together. Members purchased about 100,000 gallons of prepared soups, turning snow-packed afternoons into shared moments around the table.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
On SamsClub.com, winter weather related searches, from snow shovels and salt to heaters and power banks, surged more than 1,500 percent week over week. These weren’t trends. They were needs. And we listened. We can’t stop the snow. But our teams worked hard to find ways to serve our members. Because that’s what neighbors do.
Availability of curbside and delivery varies by club and may be impacted by weather and demand. Members should always follow guidance from local authorities and adhere to all product safety instructions.
