President and CEO, Walmart Canada
Shelley Broader is the president and chief executive officer of Walmart Canada. Shelley brings with her more than 20 years of leadership experience across the North American retail industry. She joined Walmart Canada as chief merchandise officer in 2010 where she led a team of more than 100 merchants and was responsible for driving Walmart's general merchandise and food business throughout Canada. Before joining Walmart's Canadian division Shelley was senior vice president of the south division of Sam's Club, Walmart's membership-warehouse format in the U.S, and based in Dallas, Texas.
Shelley's career spans leadership roles in several top corporations across the grocery and general merchandise sectors. Prior to joining Walmart, she was president and chief operating officer of Michael's, the world's largest retailer of arts and crafts and was responsible for the chain's 1,000 U.S. and Canadian stores and more than 12,000 employees.
Before joining Michael's, Shelley enjoyed a 17-year career with New England-based supermarket chain Hannaford Bros., where she held a broad range of leadership roles across the company's operations, merchandising, distribution, strategy and marketing divisions.
When Hannaford Bros. was purchased by Belgium-based Delhaize Group in 2000, Shelley was appointed president and chief operating officer of the company's Kash n' Karry chain and later president and CEO of the company's Sweetbay Supermarkets division.
Shelley began her career in the investment banking sector, advising clients in the U.S. supermarket industry as a counselor with the firms MFS of Boston and First Albany Corporation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Washington State University and has a lengthy track record of community engagement. In recent years, she has been active in the Network of Executive Women, the American Heart Association and the North Texas Young President's Association.
