Steven P. Whaley

Steve Whaley is senior vice president and controller of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (Walmart). Steve serves as the company’s principal accounting officer and is responsible for external reporting, corporate accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance related to internal controls over financial reporting.

Prior to joining Walmart in 2005, Steve served as vice president and controller of Southwest Airlines Co., where he worked for 16 years. In addition, Steve spent seven years with KPMG. 

Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Finance Executives International and Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA). He is also a member of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), where he serves on the National Corporate Advisory Board and Northwest Arkansas Chapter Corporate Advisory Board. 

Steve received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and is a Certified Public Accountant.
