Steve Whaley is senior vice president and controller of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (Walmart).  He joined Walmart in 2005 as vice president and assistant controller and was promoted to vice president and controller in 2006. In 2007, he was named senior vice president and controller, where he became the corporation's Principal Accounting Officer. Steve's responsibilities include financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting policy across Walmart’s global operations. 

Prior to joining Walmart, Steve served as vice president and controller of Southwest Airlines Co., where he worked for 16 years. In addition, he spent seven years with KPMG.

Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Finance Executives International and Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA). He is also a member of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), where he serves on the National Corporate Advisory Board and Northwest Arkansas Chapter Corporate Advisory Board. 

Steve received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and is a Certified Public Accountant.
