Through global initiatives, in collaboration with our NGO partners and suppliers, we're making a difference in the supply chain.
We continue to track our progress on a number of initiatives, categorized under four overarching goals. From driving change through high standards and frequent audits to proactively advocating for policies and practices that promote dignity and respect for all workers, we are committed to positively influencing our global supply chain. More than 1 billion people worldwide live in poverty, and approximately 70% of those are women. Through 2016, Walmart will work with 150 factories and 60,000 women to help break this cycle and teach the critical skills women need to become better advocates for themselves in their home, workplace and community. Supplier Development
Through our Supplier Development Program, Walmart has committed to work with 100 suppliers annually to help them improve standards and manage their factories more effectively. While still a relatively new program, the results are far reaching and affect many areas of our supply chain. By empowering workers, promoting improved conditions, improving communication with factory management and offering valuable training, suppliers are equipped to run a more efficient and productive business and can produce higher-quality products.
