Working toward 100% renewable energy
We're examining every aspect of our carbon footprint as we work toward our goal of being supplied 100% by renewable energy. This includes generating our own energy at our stores and facilities, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making our private fleet of trucks more efficient.
We’re committed to testing and using cutting-edge technology – such as solar, wind energy, biodiesel generators and fuel cells – across our global operations. These investments help ensure a cleaner environment, while saving our customers money.
Our buildings represent the largest piece of our carbon footprint that we directly control. From lighting and water conservation to refrigeration systems and building materials, we view our facilities as laboratories of sustainability.
Every company has a responsibility to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as quickly as it can. We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and we’re working with our suppliers to do the same.
Walmart has one of the largest fleets in the world, so our actions have a significant impact on the communities where we live and work. We strive to lead the industry in testing and deploying clean technology to reduce diesel fuel consumption and minimize air pollution.
In partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, we created Acres for America in 2005. This is a 10-year, $35 million commitment by us to purchase and preserve 1 acre of wildlife habitat in the U.S. for every acre of land we develop.
