International Giving

Giving Back Around the World

Walmart’s giving extends across the globe. We give back to communities in the international markets where we operate through locally managed giving programs. We support international philanthropy in the areas of hunger and nutrition, environmental sustainability, women’s economic empowerment and disaster relief.

In 2013, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave $71 million in cash and in-kind donations internationally.

While Walmart does not currently accept unsolicited international giving proposals, each international business is encouraged to give back to causes and organizations that are having a positive impact on the issues facing local communities across the globe.

Global Women's Economic Empowerment

In 2011, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation pledged to contribute $100 million in grants to further develop our Women's Economic Empowerment Initiative. This program aims to improve the lives of women around the world by 2016 by making a substantial difference in three key areas — sourcing, training and diversity and inclusion.
